I was so excited to have the opportunity to design a new version of the Marietta Riverfront Roar logo in the spring of 2023. The Marietta Riverfront Roar is a huge event put on by local volunteers in my city. This boat race is a part of Marietta's community and draws a crowd from the greater area and surrounding states.
I put a lot of thought into the new logo design for this local event. It is such a big part of the river culture in the area, I wanted to represent how this event is experienced by the people who attend. The logo itself takes inspiration from the speed of the race, the traditional race colors, the people and location of the event.
The emphasis of the design is placed on the speed of the boats as they are the main attraction. The heart of the Riverfront Roar is the race and the logo uses traditional red, white, and blue for the branding colors to call to the racing association. Lastly, the design is meant to represent the people who attend the Riverfront Roar and location where it takes place. The event is most commonly referred to as the “Roar” so the design calls attention to the word “Roar” and the boat to create a focal point. A hidden detail that adds to the meaning of the logo is the bottom line representing the wake following the boat which forms the letter “M” for “Marietta”. The logo was designed with attention to detail and thought for the meaning of the event it represents.
Marietta holds an important place in my heart and always will. Having the opportunity to design a logo for such a high-profile event while working with the wonderful people who make it possible was an incredible experience!
